Bookshelves and… really, just random crap.
1. I can be a bit of a private individual and am usually loathe to pry into the private lives of others. One thing I enjoy, though, is looking at a person’s bookshelf. So I decided to take a picture of part of my bookshelf and post a picture. Won’t you do the same on your blog? I want to see what I might learn about you from the picture. Here is my picture which you may click to enlarge. Try to contain the excitement.
2. I saw Besos this weekend. We had not spent any substantive time together since early September and, well, perhaps we’re re-evaluating. Time will tell.
Anyway, we had a relaxing Saturday night after I spent the day with family and she with friends. Then, this morning, both Little Filthy and I bounced off the walls until Besos couldn’t take it any more. I was excited because the Chicago Marathon was this morning and the runners go right past my place. When the Elite runners were a mile away, we went outside and cheered them on. Then went inside and rewound the televised coverage until we saw ourselves cheering them on.
3. I don’t know why he doesn’t just go to bed. He just falls asleep on the couch once the television is on.

4. Are you a sucker for anything? I’m a sucker for winking and terms of endearment. It’s a little bit ridiculous, really.
5. I just typed “Love is an unusual thing.” Then, in my head, I thought to myself “Make one man weep, make another man sing.” And then I wondered where the hell my mind had pulled that random line so I googled it.
Ayup. Huey Lewis, Power of Love.

Just a random attorney writing about daily life with Little Filthy, my rotten dog.

2. We have the cyclists during Coeur d’Alene’s Ironman go by our place and it is exciting and fun to cheer them on.
3. I think the same thing about my husband. It’s funny when he wakes up at 9 and says it’s time for bed. Yep, a creature of habit.
4.He can have his way whenever he kisses that sweet spot just below my ear. Oh yeah….

Gotta love me a little Huey Lewis now and then.

Thought it was an interesting proposition, so I posted a pic of my own bookshelf over at my blog. Man, looks like I should consult you for editing my Ethics essays!

I have a lot of books on two separate built-ins. One side is all cookbooks. The other side is library-like collection of lots of stuff, mostly organized by genre. Any particular group of books you’d like to see?

I love this post!
I wrote about what was on my bookshelves back in July – and have a tiny sampling of the books that are overflowing shelves (and floor) – here: http://dailyplateofcrazy.wordpress.com/other-stuff/books-books-books-for-a-rainy-day-and-then-some/ – Books say a great deal about a person. And the lack of books, even more.

1) I’m not doing this, because I fear you would make fun of me endlessly for what you would see on my bookshelf.
2) I’m making that face you laugh at.
3) Too cute.
4) I’m a sucker for flowers. Oh yes, love me some flowers. So you DO love my terms of endearment for you, don’t you Cookie?
5) It IS the power of LOVE!

1. I love the bookshelf idea. I will have to get to that!!
2. Hmmm… re-evaluating with Besos. Good thing? Bad thing? Hope its exactly what you wish for it to be.
3. Little Filthy just needs a good snuggle.
4. I’m a sucker for a good smelling man and king crab legs with clarified butter and lemon.
5. Great. Now that damn song is stuck in my head.

Don’t most men fall asleep when on the couch…
I’m a sucker for hugs. I love a hug that just encompasses me.

@debra – I owe you an e-mail and have been horribly delinquent – you are terribly kind not to want to boot me in the pants. I laughed at the story of your husband waking at 9 and saying it is time for bed. heh. Does he know about that sweetspot below the ear? What a weapon!
@MommaSunshine – I actually groaned when I saw it. Like, “Good God, I can’t recall my previous address but I remember THIS?”
@C – Hello! It is nice to meet you.
Your bookshelf looks far more eclectic than the shot I took.
@Beth – Yes. I want to see the books you read as a guilty pleasure.

I have an odd memory for 80s song lyrics. Every time I catch myself singing along to some obscure tune on the radio I think, “thats taking up useful space in my brain. THIS is why I can’t remember the important stuff when I really need to.” All because Gloria Estefan, Debbie Gibson and El DeBarge are burned into my brain forever.

Do audio books count? Cause the only time I have to read is while driving! That sounds funny!
My book shelf contains Barney counting and Dr. Seuss.
Hmmm

@BigLittleWolf – Just checked our your entry! Fantastic. I’m tempted to take a picture of my poetry section to send to you now.
@QT – Oh, now you have to. You have got to take a picture – I promise I won’t make fun of you. And YES, I like your terms of endearment for me.
@T – Oh man, I’m imagining what your bookshelf would look like. Prediction: Tolle and at least 3 books on emotional health. And king crab legs.
@Linda – heh. I don’t understand the falling asleep on the couch thing but that is probably because I can’t fall asleep with the television on. It has to be silent or it has to be some audio book I’ve been listening to – everything else will keep me awake.

1. Before my house party this weekend I was organizing my bookshelf and I realized that I have a shelf of makeup and craft books, a shelf is ALL Vampire fiction (True Blood series, Anne Rice, Twilight), a shelf is half other assorted supernatural YA fiction, half band biographies. Bottom shelf is childrens books I’m attached to and my collection of books on serial killers, lol
October 12th, 2009 at 2:20 pm
Oh! I have another shelf or so worth of books on religion – mostly occult, though.
October 12th, 2009 at 4:55 pm
That is just a snippet of your bookshelf. What you probably aren’t showing us are your how to’s relating to tantric sex or how to take nude pictures or something like that.
Trying to get us to think you are just all about philosophy. LOL…….
October 12th, 2009 at 4:58 pm
@Chivahn – So you dig the vampire thing, huh? I’ve never read a good vampire story. I did read The Historian but I doubt that really counts.
@Sandra – You’re so cynical! heh. Okay, so, my bookshelf has four squares going down, four going across. Pick a section across and down (like 3 across, 2 down) and I will take a picture of that section.
October 12th, 2009 at 5:19 pm
Random,
To me, it’s all or nothing. No cherry picking which section you feel like showing. I want the whole picture.
I know you also have some books that explain how to raise a pet like your child. Or how to raise a poor little helpless dog without traumatizing it.
Over half of my books are in storage, but I will take a picture of what I have in my collection on my shelf in my room next time I post and I will give you the link. And if you insist, I will even drive out to storage and capture the books I have packed away in a wooden chest.
You’re welcome.

PS – PLEASE send pic of your poetry collection, Your Randomness! (I’ll even keep my comments to English-only…)
October 12th, 2009 at 5:32 pm
@Sandra & @BigLittleWolf – Okay, took out the camera and took more pictures of books. Putting them together now in an entry. Trouble. Both of you.
October 12th, 2009 at 7:20 pm
I read all of the Anne Rice Vampire Chronicles when I was 10-11. Read the True Blood books in highschool, and got lemming’d into the whole Twilight thing back in 08, heh.
October 12th, 2009 at 8:54 pm
This is a fun project! I called my husband (I’m at work) to ask him to take a picture of my bookshelf so I can remember what’s there. I don’t really shelve them by genre…FUN!
October 13th, 2009 at 1:39 am
Is it sad that I knew where that line was before reading on.
October 13th, 2009 at 8:36 am
My bookshelf is so beyond pathetic. I’ll take a picture anyways though.
October 14th, 2009 at 8:22 pm
Do you have any Brian Andreas on your bookshelf?
If not, you should get some. Not life changing stuff just simple
“feel good” stuff.
October 15th, 2009 at 8:33 pm
Put up my bookshelf post.
And um, yeah. You pegged me!
