Eyeball Photos.
Sometimes, I get an idea and can’t shake it. This morning, an idea came to me.
Pictures of eyeballs.
I decided to start with my own eye. I set up the tripod, camera, flash…and then sat down in front of the camera. I closed my eye to let my pupil get large and then…started snapping.
Here is my eye, up close and personal.

Once I get a large collection of eyeball shots, I think I shall put them together in a mosaic to create another large picture.
So! Any volunteers to let me take a picture of their eye?

That’s interesting. What lens did you use?

Sigma 50MM 1:2.8 Macro. I was a couple inches from the lens and then had to crop it – which is why the picture is blurry – I was so zoomed in.

Love the beautiful amber color, reminds me of autumn sunflowers.
All different colors would make an awesome mosaic.

I love it. It looks like a planet.

(First time commenting; love your blog. You make me laugh…)
I think the eyeball picture looks really cool. I don’t think I would have known it was an eyeball had you not said so.

Now I know what my text of “I want your eyeball” means.

@debra – I’m hoping I get a good mix of eye colors. I’ll have to be diligent about asking people to open wide so I can get a snap of their peepers.
@Kim – thank you!
@Christine – Hi there! I’m glad you commented. You know what the picture reminds of? Toffifay candy. Every tried it?
@QT – Yeah, mail it. I’ll take the photo and mail it back.

Nice! Yes, you can photograph my eyeball. In fact, I’m going to be down by you relatively soon. I’d be willing to bet the friends I’m seeing would let you photograph their eyeballs, too. Actually I don’t think they’d let you *not* photograph their eyeballs.

1. Is this really the color of your eye?
2. If so, are you some sort of mystical creature? Because the color is amazing. Like something magic.
3. I think the mosaic thing is a cool idea, what would you want the completed picture to look like?
September 25th, 2009 at 6:36 am
@Theresa – It is sort of amazing the detail on an eye.
@Phoe – That would be great!
@Susan – Yes, that’s the color – I sharpened the image to make the detail around the pupil more clear and increased the exposure time so that the black detail would stand out more but that’s it – my eyes are a medium shade of brown. The color only seems amazing up close, I think, because my eyes are a very standard brown.
No clue on the completed picture – I”ll have to see how many photos I get and the color scheme.

This is crazy awesome. We have a couple of pictures in the house that are tiny photos compiled into one big overall piece (e.g. photo of Dali and a paiting of VanGogh). If you do compile something along those lines please let me know!

@Samantha – Thanks! And yes, I’m sure I’ll be posting the mosaic when I finally get it put together.
@Lily – I wish I’d thought of this before I was out there.
@denise – It took about 70 shots to get one that worked.
@Danielle – I better get my butt to Denver.

I’m in, too. Wish I could have used Danielle’s pun. Damn!

Ok if standard brown looks that cool up close I want to see what mine looks like. Unfortunately I have a 150 dollar Samsung camera and I’m pretty sure it can’t do that… and you live in Chicago so thats out.
