Tales from the Train: Tootsie and Twitters.
1. On my train ride home today, I saw across an older teen / young twenty-something guy and something about him struck me as particularly odd. I couldn’t put my finger on it right away but then I realized what it was – he was wearing huge sunglasses. Not just any kind of big-ass sunglasses. But huge 1980′s style glasses. These were straight-up, hard core, 1980′s Ms. Garrett, Sister Mary, Tootsie glasses. In sunglass form.

I gawked a bit.
As it happens, I’d been shooting some texts back and forth with my Buddy and I decided to snap a picture of said sunglasses to send on over to get a second opinion. Now, I am normally not one to snap pictures of random strangers but there you have it. I am human and I have weaknesses and one of them is that I sometimes find some assholery excusable if it makes me laugh. Okay? On to the picture taking.
Okay, so…here’s why I didn’t get a picture. Did you know that camera phones make clicking noises? They do. And it’s fairly loud. And on Blackberry CDMA devices…you can’t turn the sound off. In fact, there is even a law being proposed to make it mandatory that they make this noise – specifically to discourage people from doing what I was about to do.
So I casually aimed said phone, clicked on the shutter, and coughed.
And the fucking flash went off.
Dude. Not my finest hour, people. When I saw the pre-flash-light light up while the camera focused, I knew immediately that the flash was about to fire and I turned the phone around as if it had done something surprising. The result? And awesomely washed out, blurry photo of me…looking mildly surprised.
Serves me right. I won’t be doing that again.
2. Now, I did managed to snap a picture before I left the train. Of this.

A much better picture.

@sleeplessinsimi – “You’re my kind of idiot.” heh. That made me laugh.
@T – I looked up both of these people on twitter. It is addressed to a musician – looks like the writer was trying to get his attention since he is in town. I was a little disappointed. I wanted it to be from an anonymous someone to another anonymous someone.
@lily – Can you imagine how dangerous we’d be if left entirely to our own devices?
@Ms. Cheevious – Well! Hello, Gorgeous! I need to send you a text/e-mail and catch up with you.
@MommaSunshine – heh, thank you.

Another reason to love my iPhone. When I turn off the sound, the camera click turns off too. The fun is endless.

Yeah, I’m with you. It would have been a much better story if they were just regular tweeple.

I second Theresa – you are my kind of idiot too
Um so, hey random – why didn’t you post the picture of yourself looking startled??

I like how you coughed to cover the sound of the shutter. Way to put the b in subtle, genius.

That’s hilarious! At least you saved yourself from being totally busted.
I like the pic you did get though.

I actually have sunglasses from that era that were my mom’s, they have recently became mine and I wear them to swim. Since they are really big they block the sun really well.
