For the Seafoodies
I have previous written about why I enjoy cooking – especially why I enjoy cooking for others. This past weekend, I decided to exercise that muscle and it began by going on the hunt for some good ingredients – an adventure to which I invited my mother and father as they love to get into the city and hadn’t experienced the meat packing district before.

We began early on Saturday morning by making our way to a local fish monger in town. There, we picked up some fresh red snapper, oysters and sea scallops. Then on to the butcher where we froze, walking up and down the rows, picking out some fresh bacon, bratwurst, and various other fresh meats. Into the cooler everything went.

Then off to the Green City Market for fresh vegetables. And fresh, hot apple cider donuts, eaten as we wandered. Then back to the loft where we made quick salads, boiled some fresh fingerling potatoes, steamed green beans and pan fried the red snapper. While all that was being prepared and cooking, I shucked oysters for the first time in my life. Quite a meal.
This brought me to the next day when I realized that I had never made sea scallops before. Out came the All-Clad, sea scallops, salt, pepper, oil and butter.

And you know what? Not gonna lie. I’m sort of sick of seafood. Gah.

OMG, I am so hungry right now, and I get to see this !!
I love seafood, and I don’t think I could ever get tired of it.
I miss cooking my own stuff in the kitchen. I currently live with a woman who doesn’t let me use her kitchen to cook, and it’s getting to me

I think I’ll be ready for more seafood by next week when I get to Seattle.
Whoa, no access to a kitchen? Come on over to the loft! Bonus – I’ll happily eat what you cook!

You know what, RE? I don’ t even LIKE oysters or scallops (other seafood, I do), and you have me drooling here. You could take pics of food as a side gig. You do well.
And I wish they had something like those markets here in Denver. I do visit Pike’s Place in Seattle when I go there though. Love the whole experience.

@Chivahn – I’m going to try to figure all of this out today. I’ll touch base with Bev and then we can discuss.
@Amira – Ahhh, you’re very kind. The first 3 pictures don’t count as I just snapped those with my phone but am glad they were still enjoyable. For the scallops, I yanked out a legitimate camera.
They probably do have those markets in Denver, actually; these aren’t obvious places like Pike’s Place – they are places in the meat packing district that open up for retail business. I’ll check to see what they’ve got in Denver.

Yeah, what Amira said. We don’t have anything even close to a fresh seafood market here in Colorado. I am so jealous.
And what the hell is an apple cider donut?
