My kids have begged me for a dog for almost 20 years and I wouldn’t give in. Last fall my 18 year old had some big personal problems and I finally decided maybe a dog would be good for him. I’m not a dog person, at least I wasn’t, so that meant I wasn’t going to leave it to fate as to what kind of dog we got. I didn’t want anything that got too big, hairy, had health issues, etc. So, I thought Little Filthy looked cute and started looking into dogs like him. I thought he was a Puggle (half Pug/half Beagle), and that’s what we got. Then in one of your posts you mentioned he was half Pug/half Chihuahua! Oh well, too late now! That’s like naming your kid after someone and then finding out you had the wrong name! Anyway, Bayou is part of the family now. He’s 10 months old and wants to chew on every blessed thing he finds. He especially favors shoes (mine), pens and pencils, and eye glasses. But he’s as cute as can be – tons of personality – and I’m happy to say he doesn’t eat his own poop!
Debbie, I read your comment to Besos just now – I can’t tell you how very awesome it is to hear that you 1) got a dog and 2) PURPOSELY tried to get one like Little Filthy! I think that is such a great thing! I said to Little Filthy, “Someone *tried* to get a dog like you!”
How big is Bayou? Does he bark/howl much?
Little Filthy does, still, indulge in his own creations occasionally. I’m not proud.
Who wouldn’t want a cute little face like LF? And that tail!!!! That extra little kink is really cute!
Bayou is a pretty awesome little animal, if I do say so myself. He’s a chubby puppy, for THAT, I’m not proud. He weighs 22lbs – probably 5 more than he should. Sadly, he’d doomed. Both of his breeds (Pug & Beagle) gain weight just looking at food, and all he wants to do is eat! I made the mistake early on of giving him people food.
He doesn’t bark all that much, but he’s a good watch puppy. If we get him really crazy he’ll let out a little Beagle howl, it never gets old! We laugh at him while he howls and he just gives us this look, as if to say, “WHAT? I can’t help it!!!” But, unprovoked, he doesn’t howl, mostly grunts and snorts. Oh, and he snores like a little old man and has since we got him at 11 weeks.
Potty training has been hit or miss. He’ll do great for a long time, then get ticked off because he’s not the center of attention – or if one of us are gone too long – then he’ll drop a load right in front of us. It’s his middle finger up.
Ha! He sounds awesome! I’m laughing at the middle finger up.
I don’t know how you can post in the comments – link to one, perhaps? or e-mail me? I’m at randomesq at randomesqDOTCOM. If not too much trouble.
Little Filthy is not so little, actually – he’s about 18 pounds. When I tell people he’s half Chihuahua, inevitably, they say, “That was a big chihuahua.” heh.
