Figs, Pizza, Botox and Quirky Birds.
1. Figs are gritty. I know it’s just the seeds but the grit still makes me cringe. Fig Newtons are sort of like gritty cookies. (picture by Xerones)
2. I turned on the TV tonight to a pizza dough rolling competition. These guys were all competing to see who could roll the largest crust without tearing the dough. One guy was getting ready to start and he kept rubbing the dough ball, intense concentration on his face, and this guy from the audience screams, “This is yours! You’ve been waiting your whole life for this moment!”
That’s supposed to be encouragement? That might make me pause and rethink the direction my life has been heading.
3. God, I hate the phrase “Dessert Pizza.” It just does not sit right with me.
4. I find it very funny that the slogan for Botox is “Freedom of Expression.”
5. I spoke with my sister tonight and she called their nanny a “quirky bird.” I said, “Quirky bird?” She said, “Yeah… you know, a quirky bird.” Is this slang I’m not aware of? Then she said that my niece she smells weakness in a nanny like a wolf smells a lamb. I daresay she sounded proud.

Just a random attorney writing about daily life with Little Filthy, my rotten dog.

1. I always feel like I want a fig newton, so I’ll buy small pack, eat one and then be done… for like a year. Gritty is a good way to describe them.
2. Poor guy… I wonder if there’s a training facility for dough rollers.
3. Yeah. Same. I’m very anti the idea.
4. Hmmm… curious…
5. HA. I love that term. And, I would be proud of my daughter too. It shows strength and independence. I dig it.

1., 2., and 3. I’ve heard figs are good on pizza.
4. If you say it enough times, people might believe it.
5. I’ve got nothing.

Wolfgang Puck’s at O’Hare serves ‘breakfast pizza’. Bacon and eggs on pizza dough.
Why?????

See, I find that crunch in Fig Newtons (or anything figgy) satisfying. Crrrrunch. Crackle.
You know what’s really good? Crostini with fig jam and manchego cheese. It’s the perfect combination of sweet and savory. Nyahm, nyahm, nyahm. Mama loves her some manchego.

Snarky – Yes! Fig Newtons are better in theory than they are in practice.
Jessica – I can see figs being tasty on a pizza. Figs themselves don’t seem to bother me despite also having that grit. (welcome! thank you for the comment.
)
Instigator – Why do you know this? I suppose if we have breakfast burritos, breakfast pizzas weren’t far behind.

I’m guessing “quirky bird” is some English slang. As in, from England. It sounds like something you’d expect Michael Caine to say, doesn’t it?

I have to defend the breakfast pizza.
I have made them.
And they were really good.

Of all the things in all the world they could fill a Newton with, WHY FIGS?
4. If your only expression is indifference, you are free to make it. What’s wrong with that ad campaign?

I too hate dessert pizza. Wtf is that about?!
September 16th, 2008 at 8:34 pm
Is said dessert pizza on regular pizza crust? I’ve never had that…it sounds gross.
However, I make what could be considered a ‘dessert pizza’…the crust is a brownie, there’s a layer of peanut butter mixed with something…cream cheese, I think, and it’s topped with pretty much whatever you want…peanut butter cups, strawberries, chocolate sauce, peanuts, whatever. I don’t really call it a dessert pizza though.

Nobody -Quirky Bird *does* sound rather English!
Bev – Did you use a biscuit dough for the crust? What’d you put on it?
KT – Dude, it’s beyond me. A FIG. And yeah, that botox ad makes me laugh.
Vittoria – I don’t know – it’s infuriating!
KT – Hmmm…maybe a pastry crust? Ooo, your dessert sounds good. We demand a picture!

I haven’t made it in a really long time. Guess I’d better make it soon, hey? (Oh, that was a *very* Wisconsin thing to say. I fear I am being converted.)
September 19th, 2008 at 6:37 pm
Ohhhhh no, no, no my friend, I make a *terrific* dessert pizza.
I. will. convert. you.
On a moist yellow cake “crust” (baked on a pizza pan) with either strawberry/banana yogurt OR vanilla pudding “sauce” with sliced strawberries, bananas, green grapes and blueberries, with shredded coconut as da “cheese”
I’ve made friends with this thing.
