Wine, company, and peppers.
1. I’m a wine amateur but was invited to attend a wine tasting of sorts, hosted by Georg Riedel, maker or Riedel wine glasses.

Basically, we sipped four different wines, each from four different wine glasses to experience how the same wine changed in aroma, texture, and taste based upon the glass used. It was pretty remarkable, I have to say. Now that I have the right glass for any wine, I think it’s time to have some people over.
2. I’m weird about having people over. I can be…very private (duh). It’s just that you can tell exactly who I am and my place is sort of like my insides spread across the loft in the form of the books on my bookshelf and the art hanging on the walls. I don’t really care so much what people think as much as it weirds me to have them know so much about me in one fell swoop.
3. I made stuffed peppers tonight. Before picture. Sausage, tomato, onion, garlic, mushrooms, zucchini. I added rice and a tomato base and stuffed. Now I’m stuffed.

Just a random attorney writing about daily life with Little Filthy, my rotten dog.

I am a hermit. I won’t let people in
But then again, I do like to entertain. It’s all part of the inexplicableness of me.
Yeah, the art and books are a dead giveaway into a person’s psyche. There have been times (say, when I have a man over for the first time) that I hide some books. I mean, really, dating books make you look kind of, well, pathetic. Not that I HAVE any dating books. Well, I mean, I USED to have them. Now, what’s the point…bleh.
Peppers look yummy!

1. I love how different glasses can add or detract from a wine. Riedel glasses are phenomenal. Did you buy a whole bunch? I totally would!
2. Having people over is something I always THINK to do, but it never really comes to fruition. I get strange when people are going to come over… I HAVE to clean… I HAVE to change the litter box… A lot of the books I own are from law school or undergrad. I hide all of my red dress ink books (20-30-something single female blah blah blah books… I love them). I’m VERY particular about the privacy of my bedroom. I do NOT like people in there.
3. When are you making me some peppers!? I’m huuuungry!
April 16th, 2008 at 10:24 pm
Brenda: You definitely can’t come over because you understand too much about the importance of books and art. You’d have me on the couch in 10 minutes, explaining my childhood.

1. That sounds really fun. I love wine, but I don’t know anything about it. Someday I hope to learn more. Right now my life is more about sippy cups than wine glasses.
2. We never have people over and rarely go out with other couples. We just like to chill at home. Chris threatened me with bodily harm today if I miss your Seattle get-together.
3. Dinner looks yummy!
Art in my house – cheesy prints from Ikea. Yikes.
Books – I just looked at the pile of books on my nightstand, I guess they ARE pretty telling. Interesting.

SnarkyRunner:
1) I had some Riedel glasses already (for cabernet, which is my wine of choice) and walked away with a set of four tasting glasses.
2) I can’t think of anything I’d hide…other than Little Filthy.
3) Come on over. Bring some wine.

Krystie Lee:
1) Half the time, my measure of a decent bottle of wine is simply that it didn’t make me cringe a little as it went down.
2) I’m looking forward to meeting you! I think Plush may be joining, as well, so you may meet her, too.
Now I want to know what books are on your nightstand. Share!

Well the dog (I mean, Little Filthy) would probably lick my face or something too, so I’d be too busy wiping off the dog goo to notice the books anyway!
How did you know I used to be a counselor, in my former life? Gee. I thought I was keeping that secret so well

Vino vino vino! Bev and I have been on some serious wine kicking over the past few years to learn more about the intricacies. It’s been a fun thing to do
Now I want to go see your apartment. I wonder if it will be like American Psycho?
April 17th, 2008 at 8:21 am
Brenda – We’ll make sure Little Filthy blows his kisses to you.
LynchSeattle – What kind of wine do you guys drink most often?
And no! My place isn’t like in American Psycho. No dead bodies. Well, not visible, anyway.

I’ll answer for Chris – we have been into Spanish wines lately, but our “everyday” wine is an Argentine cab-malbec from Septima (http://www.bodegaseptima.com/). It’s less than $10 a bottle and we usually buy by the case so it’s even cheaper
We have some Reidel glasses, but I would love to go to a party like you did and find out which glass really suits each wine. You get to go to all the swank events. I’m jealous!
I like to entertain and we have people over a few times a month. We have one big “party” a year – in August for Chris’s birthday, but I prefer smaller groups of 1 or 2 couples.
I’m a serious bibliophile so my office is full of books. All different kinds from mysteries to textbooks. Our art would pretty much say that we’re lazy because it’s from IKEA – less than a mile away
We always talk about getting Chris’s pictures framed and having that be our “art” but …. well, it hasn’t happened yet.
April 17th, 2008 at 9:02 am
I’m going to have to check out that wine. Sounds great!
I think Riedel does these seminars a lot – he might do one in Seattle. It really was a great event.
I’m about ready to frame some of Chris’s pictures so I can’t believe you guys haven’t! He’s got so many great pictures; I could easily see making a great series.

I’m one of those freaks that LOVES to entertain. I love an excuse to clean all the corners I let go to pot when it’s just Scott and the kids and I. We frequently have people over. At least a few times a month.
I love coming up with a menu, and planning which set of china (or not) to use. I love shopping for flowers to put out and having an excuse to put out the guest towels. I love selecting a wine, and picking out candles… the whole process is fantastic.
My life is pretty much an open book to anyone who’s spent five minutes with me in a room. I’m one of those people who sort of puts it all out there, nothing really embarrases me, and I’m a “take me as I am” girl for the most part. I honestly can’t think of anything I wouldn’t tell people about myself if they were curious enough to ask. It never occured to me to even take down books or wonder what people think of my paintings I have done – or my photography, or my Ikea art (ya…got that too!)
My books would say…”wow this woman will read anything!” and my home is a reflection of the things I love. None of which would surprise anyone. Hundred year old antique tables and 60 inch flat screen T.V’s. Everything is a mix of the old and new, the thrifted and the state of the art.
The only thing that’s off limits is my bedroom. It’s my sactuary and I don’t even like the kids to be in there. I would kick the Mister out if it didn’t put a crimp in the ol’ sex life! LMAO.

1. I cannot believe you did not invite me to this event – I must be the biggest wino you know. What the hell good is it being your work girlfriend anyhow???
2. I think its fantastic you are ready to entertain. I love to entertain. Come to think of it, not too long ago I entertained you at my house. Hint HINT!! You cannot tell anything about me by visiting my house. It pretty much tells you we like Crate & Barrel and electronic gadgetry.
3. I know you like to cook, and your food always looks good in pics. Frankly, if you have enough wine, it doesn’t matter what you pair it with. Stuffed peppers, hot dogs, subway sammiches – all good!
ps: Tiffany, you sound way fun, can I be your friend??
April 18th, 2008 at 9:58 am
Yay! I love friends!
I do believe that the instigator and I could have some fine, fiendish, fun together.
Every time RE writes about you I’m sitting here cracking up and thinking, “ya…that’s my kinda girl…”
April 20th, 2008 at 10:18 pm
Tiffany – Oh yes, I can easily see you and Instigator getting along marvelously. In fact, I can almost hear you both making fun of me at the same time. This is one of her favorite past-times and I’m sure she’d initiate you quickly.
I dig people who are that open and will share anything – it’s something I really find attractive in a person and is very true about Plush, for example. She’s someone who just…puts it all out there and shrugs. I dig.
April 20th, 2008 at 10:19 pm
Instigator – Let’s have lunch on Tuesday. I will reassure you that you are, in fact, the biggest wino I know. In fact, I’ll try to get you into a wine pairing event I’m going to that evening. How’s that sound? Are you free?
And I promise to have you over for Subway and lots of wine.

Heh, making fun of you as a hobby? What does that say about R.E.? Anyone?
I like someone who can laugh at themselves and the world around them. Plush sounds like someone I could dig.
I think like is just far too short to pretend to be something you’re not.
April 21st, 2008 at 8:31 pm
*laugh* Actually, only Instigator makes fun of me currently. But who knows, she may start a GoogleGroup and create an official sport
I like it because it catches me off guard and so I find it charming. I will give credit to Boss for this because she vastly increased my sense of humor about myself. I was a fairly stiff attorney when I met her. As private as I can be, I like it when someone quickly identifies my sense of humor and hones in on it and teases me. I’m a complete sucker for it. Because it’s such an understanding. And isn’t that the ultimate seduction of the mind?
April 21st, 2008 at 9:39 pm
That should have read, LIFE is too short. I’m sure you guessed that though.
My personal opinion is that I could never be with anyone who wasn’t able to laugh at themselves, and to help me laught at myself when I need it. Sometimes I’m just being an ass and I need someone to laugh about it and help me realize it!
I’m never quite sure what to do with people who take themselves really seriously. Maybe I need to perfect my own version of “blank face”?
